Jack Deitz

John "Jack" Alexander Deitz, 77, Halstad, MN, died on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Hillsboro Medical Center in Hillsboro, ND.  He was born in Fargo, ND, on September 30, 1932, to John and Bessie (Smart) Deitz.

Jack grew up in rural Elm River Township near Grandin, North Dakota and attended Halstad Public High School in Halstad, MN graduating in 1950.  After graduation he attended NDSU. Jack met Beverly (Lee), fell in love and married her on June 13, 1953. Later he started working on the Glenn Wiese farm near Halstad.  Jack spent many years as a parts-man for McLaughlin's Sales and Service, in Halstad, and as manager of the Halstad Farmers Union Coop Oil.  Jack served in Norman County's Treasure's office for thirty years and as Treasure/Auditor seventeen years. Jack was an active community leader. He served on the Halstad School Board as clerk, Halstad Lutheran Church as treasure and was very active in the Halstad Lions Club. He was the Lions District 5M11 Governor in 1985 and 1986. Besides spending time with his family at South Twin Lake on their yearly family vacations, Jack enjoyed working in his yard, raising a few sheep, helping his grandson, Jeremy, farm and spending time with his grandchildren and great grand children.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, three daughters Debbie, Halstad, Pamela (Gregg) Holte Shelly, MN, and Kathy (Tom) Maroney, Halstad,  Eleven grandchildren, Kristina (Jeremy) Melting, Jeremy (Dawn) Paulsrud, Emily (Matt) Finney, Joanna Holte, Nicholas Paulsrud, Nicole Maroney, Abigail (Craig) Wignes, Steven Maroney, Michael (Erin) Holte, Krystal Maroney and Maggie Maroney, and eleven great grand children.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5-7PM with a 7PM prayer service at the church, and Thursday for hour before the funeral.

Burial: Qunicy Cemetery, rural Grandin, ND.
