Obituary

Isadora A. Schurdevin, age 91, of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Isadora was born April 5, 1919 in Lockhart, MN the oldest daughter of Paul and Alvina (Paul) Treichel. She was raised in the Lockhart–Beltrami communities and attended school there. After the death of her mother, she took an active role in raising her 5 younger brothers and sisters. On April 11, 1937 she was united in marriage to Leonard Schurdevin. They made their home in the Twin Valley, MN and Gary, MN communities for the most of their married years. Over the years, Isadora worked at several area cafes and was a cook at the Gary School for 18 years. She was also active on their farm doing the milking and all the other farm work while her husband was trucking.

After Leonard's death in 1975, she continued to live in Gary until 1986. Isadora then moved to Mahnomen, where she had made her home since.

Isadora was a long time member of the Gary Lutheran Church and of the ladies aid there. She was also a member the Gary American Legion Auxiliary. Isadora was an avid reader, especially the bible. She could also be found crocheting, while watching her favorite program "Little House on the Prairie", making many afghans for her family. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters: Carolyn Nelson, Ada, MN, Cheryl Andrew, Lonsdale, MN and Denise (David) Voit, Mahnomen, MN; one sister, Laura Widrig, Fertile, MN; one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Treichel, Nevis, MN; eight grandchildren: Debra (Tracy) Vaughn, Mark (Kathy) Schurdevin, David (Sandra) Georgeson, Ben Andrew, Brandy Voit, JenniLeah (Conrad) Kondos, Krystal (CJ) Voit and Christopher Voit; 15 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; three brothers: Henry, Leonard and Edwin; a sister, Nora; a step-son, Dwaine; and a grandson, Steven.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 pm in the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary, MN. A time of gathering was held one hour before service at the church. Pastor John Ahola was the officiant and Alden Anderson provided special music.. The urn bearer was David Georgeson.

Inurnment was at Ada Cemetery, Ada, MN.
