Irma Prestegord, age 81, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Wednesday October 6, 2010, at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, Minnesota.
Irma Malinda Allrich was born April 5, 1929, to G. William and Clara (Wichern) Allrich on a farm near Twin Valley. She attended Marsh Creek School and as a young woman she confirmed her faith at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strand Township. On July 16, 1947, Irma was united in marriage to Martin Prestegord at the Wild Rice Lutheran parsonage near Twin Valley. They made their first home in Erskine, Minnesota, and shortly thereafter moved to a farm west of Faith, Minnesota. Irma and Martin later moved into Twin Valley where they have made their home since. Over the years, Irma worked on the farm and cleaned at that Twin Valley School. She also was employed as a nurse's aide at the Twin Valley Retirement Home and later as a cook at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home. For many years, Irma worked hand in hand with Martin, painting buildings and performing the custodial work at the Zion Lutheran Church. After her retirement, Irma enjoyed the time spent at craft shows and treasured the time she was able to spend crocheting, gardening, and simply being with grandchildren.
Irma is survived by her husband, Martin of Twin Valley; three sons: Virgil Prestegord, David (Phyllis) Prestegord, and Stacey (Verona) Prestegord, all of Twin Valley, MN; three daughters: Phillis (Lynn) Weium of Moorhead, MN, LeAnn Thornton and Hiedi Boe, both of Twin Valley, MN; two brothers, Roy (Gladys) Allrich of Andover, MN, and Arnie (Linda) Allrich of Big Lake, MN; one sister, Edna Johanassohn of Sun City, AZ; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
