Obituary

Irma Y. Hendrickson, age 94, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Irma Yvonne Ashmore was born on December 10, 1930 in White Earth, MN to Irvin and Hannah (Rikhus) Ashmore. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith which she continued until the time of her death.

Irma moved with her family to Ulen at a young age where she grew up alongside her six brothers on the family farm. She graduated from Ulen High School in 1948. Irma married and had four children: Lorna, Robert, David, and Shelley. In 1966, Irma moved to Indianapolis, IN, remarried, and had two more children: Melanie and Kimberly. While in Indiana, she worked at Hoosier Village Retirement Center, then St. Vincent's Hospital for many years until her retirement. After retiring, she moved back to Ulen to be near family and friends.

Irma enjoyed traveling, though most of her trips were between Indiana and Minnesota. She especially cherished a visit to the East Coast with friends and family, as well as memorable adventures to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and a cruise. Later in life, she traveled to Texas to spend time with her granddaughter, where she delighted in the blooming spring flowers and the sight of migrating hummingbirds.

Irma deeply enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and lending a helping hand whenever she could. Her favorite pastimes included reading, working on puzzles, embroidery, and playing bingo during her years in the nursing home. Irma lived her life with a smile on her face and a heart full of love, always bringing joy to those around her. Her uplifting spirit was a gift to all who knew her.

Irma is survived by her children: Lorna (Mike) Berry, Robert (Jocelyn) Herzog, David Herzog, Shelley Lunder (Mark Christianson), Melanie (Victor) Kingsley, and Kimberly Voegle; brother, Jerry (Beverly) Ashmore; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Hannah; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Clinton (Eldora), Bud (Vera), Leo (Fern), Corky (Avis), Waldo; granddaughter, Staci; daughter-in-law, Penny; and two great-great twin grandsons, Malachi and Boaz.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Irma's Viking Manor family for the exceptional care and the meaningful friendships she formed over the years with both staff and residents. They also wish to express their gratitude to Hospice for their compassionate support.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with a visitation one hour before, at Maranatha Free Church in Ulen, MN.
