Irene E.
Roquet
Apr 20, 1934 — Apr 21, 2018
Irene Elizabeth Roquet of Ada MN, passed away suddenly on Saturday April 21, 2018, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND, at the age of 84.
Irene was born at home in rural Hazeleton, ND, one of eight children, to Christ and Adeline (Reich) Renz. She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Glencoe Church. Irene attended the Burroak Country School until the 8 th grade. Irene enjoyed the life of a country farm girl, until moving to Fargo, ND and working in the Bison Hotel as a waitress. United in Marriage to William (Bill) Roquet on September 25 th 1955, they were married for 44 years and blessed with 3 children.
Irene was a stay at home mother until she started working at Goodmans in Grand Forks in housekeeping, when the family moved to Florida in 1971 she continued to work in the housekeeping industry at Fairfield Nursing Home. Though she loved the warm weather and ocean, health issues with William brought the family back to the Ada area in 1977, there Irene worked at the Ada Hospital in the housekeeping department until she retired in 2000.
Irene had a love for family that reached not only her own children but that of her extended family of sisters and her brother, nieces and nephews. Every year doing calendars for each, in color coded pens of all the birthdays, anniversaries, and deaths of all in the family. She would start in December each year when the new calendars would come out.
Her love also went out to many children in the area, as she spent her days at Charlene's daycare, holding, hugging, and reading to the many boys and girls who nicknamed her "lil grandma." She will be missed by many. Irene loved to travel with her siblings to different places and most recently went back to the Hazelton area to see where she grew up. The happiness and smile on her face as she shared her life will remain with us forever. The love of the birds singing in her back yard, and writing letters in the Round Robin exchange letter that traveled to each sibling family lit up her days, and her love of her Savior Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life.
Irene is survived by her sons; Michael (Pam) Roquet, Ada, MN, Tim Roquet, Ada, MN, her daughter; Charlene (Douglas) Slininger, Ada, MN, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, her sisters; Louella (Ralph) Tack, Grand Forks, ND, Dianne (Ervin) Lindgren, East Grand Forks, MN, and a brother Richard (Bonnye) Rock, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Adeline (Reich) Renz, her beloved husband, William (Bill) Roquet, sisters, Marie Albaugh, Warren MN, Emma Jean, Zillah, Washington, Leona McCarl, Helena, MT, Clarabelle Hendrickson, Jamestown, ND, and Lillian Schwartz, Brainerd, MN.
The emptiness that will be felt by so many that knew her as Mother, sister, aunt, grandma, lil grandma, and friend, will be filled with the knowing that she is with her Savior Jesus Christ.
