Irene Oline Opheim, 86 of Fertile, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN.
Irene was born at home in Norman County near Syre, MN, on February 3, 1925, the daughter of Adolph and Johanna (Bakken) Opshal. She was confirmed at Asplund Lutheran Church in Flom, MN. Irene attended school in Twin Valley, graduating from Twin Valley High School in 1944. She lived and worked at several places in Detroit Lakes, Fargo and Ada.
Irene was united in marriage to Truman Opheim, on October 23, 1954, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flom, MN. Together they lived and raised their family in rural Fertile.
Irene was an active member of First Evanger Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was the president of the Ladies Aide for many years. She was an active member of the ladies Auxiliary and Homemakers.
Irene enjoyed quilting and embroidery. However, gardening was her passion and she had many beautiful flower beds on the farm. Having a servant's spirit, Irene nurture and cared for everyone she met. May God bless her memory in our hearts.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Theresa (Lee) Leines, Grandin ND; son, Thomas (Wanda) Opheim, Indianapolis, IN; son, Owen Opheim, Delphi, IN; daughter, Julie (Daniel) Bonham, Franklin, IN; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Truman and brother, Ludvig Opshal.
