Ione Tobin, age 99, of Twin Valley, MN, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Farmstead Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN.

Ione Christensen was born on October 15, 1926, in Flom, MN, to William and Selma (Flom) Christensen. She began her education in Flom and later attended Waubun High School, graduating with the class of 1945. Ione was confirmed at Wild Rice Lutheran Church on December 7, 1941—a day in history no one would forget. Following high school, she attended Fargo-Moorhead Business School, where she studied accounting.

On December 10, 1949, Ione was united in marriage to the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Tobin, at Wild Rice Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Ramsey Farm in Home Lake Township for many years before moving into Flom in 1958. Ione helped on the farm, raised their family, and remained active in her church and community. Following Joe’s passing in 1992, Ione moved to Twin Valley, where she lived until a fall led her to move to Touchmark Senior Living in Fargo, ND. During her time there, she found a new church family at St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church.

Ione loved to travel. She and Joe spent more than 13 winters in Texas and took several trips to Germany, Italy, and throughout Europe. Of all the places she visited, Norway remained her favorite. Closer to home, Ione enjoyed trips to the casino with Joe, going dancing, and, in her later years, keeping in touch with friends and family over the phone. She was active in the Flom-Twin Valley VFW Auxiliary, Aspelund Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, and the local coffee club. Ione was the last of her generation and will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.

Ione is survived by her sons, Warren (Sally) Tobin and Terry (Diane) Tobin; six grandchildren, Patrick Tobin, Sarah (Stephen Mathis) Tobin, Katrina (Joseph) Rubenstein, Joseph Tobin, John (Amanda) Tobin, and Joshua “Josh” Tobin; four great-grandchildren, Hazel Mathis, Rachel Tobin, Timothy Tobin, and a soon-to-be-born Baby Tobin; and cousin, Duane Baukol.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; and siblings, James, Ronald, and her infant twin sister, Irene.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation one hour before, at Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom, MN. Interment will be at the Aspelund Lutheran Cemetery in Flom.
