Inez Thordal, 88, Gary, Minnesota, died Sunday, February 18, 2007 in the Mahnomen Health Center, Mahnomen, Minnesota.
Inez L. Flaa was born November 13, 1918, the daughter of Paul and Pauline (Lystne) Flaa in Gary where she was raised. As a youngster, Inez was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Gary Lutheran Church. Inez attended school in Gary and finished her high school education at the Crookston Agricultural College. After graduation, Inez furthered her education, attending hairdressing school in Minneapolis. She was employed as a beautician in a salon in Ada, Minnesota for one year. On July 1, 1939, Inez was united in marriage to Mandez Thordal in Gary. The couple made their home in Gary where she operated her own salon for a few years. Inez and Mandez raised their four children in Gary and have continued to make their home there.
Inez was a lifetime member of Gary Lutheran Church where she was an active member of ladies aide and in her younger years, would occasionally play the piano for church services. She participated in many church and community activities throughout her lifetime. Inez enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flower gardens. Inez and Mandez enjoyed traveling and experiencing new adventures. They also spent several winters in Texas. She had many talents, including baking, cooking and a specialty in doing hardanger. Inez had a great love for her entire family, and treasured the times they all spent together. She also had a strong affection for her many pets.
Inez is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mandez of Gary, MN; daughter, Linda (Kenneth) Mogen of New Town, ND; sons, Bruce (Wil Akana) of Eagan, MN; Lynn (Diane) of Gary, MN; and Brian (Anne) of Minot, ND; a brother, Francis (Jeanine) Flaa, East Grand Forks, MN, and a cousin that she was raised with, Marvel Petrakis, South Pasadena, California.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vernice and Louise and a cousin, Gene Jacobson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 10:30 AM in Gary Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21st from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Twin Valley, MN. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff McCracken with Alden Anderson serving as vocalist and organist, accompanied by Julia Mae Gullingsrud. Pallbearers will be Andy Mogen, Eric Mogen, Jarette Mogen, Nicole Taylor, Justin Thordal, Ryan Thordal, Christopher Thordal and Brittany Thordal.
Burial will be in Gary Lutheran Cemetery.
