Watch Inez's Funeral Service

Inez Asleson, age 105, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, surrounded by her loved ones.

Inez Viola Hanson was born on February 5, 1917, at home on the family farm in Hagen Township, rural Ulen, to Emil and Marie Hanson. Growing up, she helped on the farm and walked to the little county school she attended. After leaving school, Inez began working at a café in Ulen where she met the love of her life, Harris Asleson. Inez and Harris were married on September 1, 1937, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen and the couple began traveling around the United States for Harris's work, while starting their family. In 1949, the Asleson family moved back to Ulen where they made their forever home. Inez kept herself busy caring for her home and her six children: Sharon, Judy, Rickie, Renae, Kathy, and Kristi. After her children were more independent, Inez owned and worked for the Family Café in Ulen.  She worked there for a few years until 1965, at which time, Inez was hired as the very first cook at Viking Manor Nursing Home, where she proudly served until her retirement. Retirement didn't slow Inez down as she then began to fill her time volunteering as a cook for the Senior Center preparing noon meals, even into her 80's. In her 90's, Inez really began to "have fun" and spent her time with trips to the Moorhead Fryn' Pan followed by Bingo. She was the happiest surrounding herself with friends and family.

Never to let her hands be idle, Inez kept busy making beautiful cross-stitch pieces that are cherished by her family and playing cards, her favorite being Rummy. She was known as Mrs. Clean to her family, as everything was always in its place and sparkling before she would leave the house. Inez showed her love through cooking and baking, family favorites being doughnuts and her baked beans. She was a member of the Ulen VFW Auxiliary and the Bethlehem Lutheran Ladies Aid. Inez had a quick sense of humor and put her family before all else. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Inez is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Erling) Syverson, Judy Asleson, Renae Haglund, Kristi (Larry) Iseman; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Wanda Asleson; and son-in-law, Ronnie Lomsdal.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, Harris Asleson; son, Rickie "Sonny Boy" Asleson; daughter, Kathy Lomsdal; and sons-in-law, John Oss and Roger Haglund.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation starting one hour before, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. Burial will take place at North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
