Imogene "Jeannie" Jacobson, age 97, of Ulen, MN passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen.

Imogene Lorraine Buchholz, the daughter of Bernhard and Gyda (Wermager) Buchholz, was born on March 23, 1926, near Gary, MN.  Jeannie attended country grade school and after her family moved to Flom, MN, she enrolled in Waubun High School.  Following her graduation, Jeannie continued her education earning her associate degree from Moorhead State Teachers College.  She then taught for 8 years in various one room schoolhouses in the Flom area.  Jeannie was united in marriage to Kenneth "Connie" Jacobson and they moved to Eveleth, MN.  While making their home in Eveleth, they were active in various community events and the church.  They also enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, swimming, and hiking.  Jeannie was employed as a cook for the Eveleth Hospital for over 30 years.  She enjoyed cooking and was a wonderful baker.  Following her husband's sudden death in 1980, Jeannie continued living in Eveleth until her retirement in 1991.  She then relocated to be closer to her mother, Gyda.  They each had their own apartment at Valley Pines, in Twin Valley, MN, where they enjoyed many years of companionship.  Jeannie started a volunteer job for the elementary school system working as a Foster Grandparent.  "Grandma Jeannie", as she was fondly referred to, truly blossomed in this role.  She loved each of the children and helped them with whatever they needed – including lots of hugs.   She continued volunteering at the school for over 20 years, bringing herself as much joy as she brought to the kids.  Over the years, Jeannie humbly received many awards for her volunteer hours.  She was a good neighbor and friends to many.  Jeannie always had the coffee pot on and was ready for company to stop in for a visit.  She also liked playing cards, reading, going to the movies, country western concerts, attending plays, and going out to eat.  Jeannie was a member of Aspelund Lutheran Church, near Flom, where she was active with the ladies aide, alter guild, Bible studies, and taught Sunday School.  Jeannie's Christian faith was the foundation in her life and was evident through her kind and generous spirit.  As she struggled with progressive dementia, Jeannie moved to the Northern Lights Assisted Living in Ulen for a short time, before requiring full time care. For the past several years, Jeannie has lived in the Viking Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by the loving and caring staff, who always made her feel at home.

Jeannie is survived by one brother, Boyd (Shirley) Buchholz and one sister, Linda Olson, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Donna (Perry) Laten; one brother, Bernard (Norma) Buchholz; and brother-in-law, Ronald Olson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Aspelund Lutheran Church, rural Flom, MN.  Visitation will begin one hour before the funeral at the church.  Burial will take place at Aspelund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Flom.
