Hermenegildo "Hermen"
Tellez
Dec 18, 1950 — May 11, 2026
Waubun
Hermenegildo "Hermen" Tellez, age 75, of Waubun, Minnesota, passed away on May 11, 2026, in Fargo, North Dakota.
Hermen, as he was known to many, was born on December 18, 1950, in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, México, to Eliodoro and Petra Tellez.
He grew up on the family ranch in Nuevo León, where he developed his lifelong, relentless work ethic. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the Mexican Army.
In the 70's, he moved to Alvin, Texas, and could often be found in Dickinson at the dances with his brothers and sisters. He started his family in Texas with his first two children, Heron and Alma. In the 1980s, his journey took him north to Minnesota, where he worked in the sugar beet fields.
He eventually found his home in Waubun, Minnesota, a community he truly loved. It was there that he met his partner of over 35 years, Pam Holt. He welcomed Pam's daughter, Alena, and together they expanded their family with two sons, Julian and Daniel. He also worked dedicatedly at the Shooting Star Hotel and Casino for nearly 3 decades, a place where he enjoyed working.
A true cowboy at heart, Hermenegildo was defined by his old-school ways, always wearing his cowboy boots and hats. He famously stayed independent of modern technology, proudly refusing to ever own a cell phone. He found his peace outdoors, whether he was out fishing or tending to his garden, as he was known to do.
He loved his family and often told his children "Don't do drugs. Go to school. Work and take care of your family." Words that will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his life partner, Pam Holt; his children, Heron Tellez (Felicia), Alma Tellez (Sal), Julian Tellez (Janelle), and Daniel Tellez (Tory); and his bonus daughter, Alena Holt.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Pedro, Joseph "Joey", Diego, Steven " Stevie", Julisa, Salvador, Fabian, Bianca, Nayeli, Rylie, Xavier, Leticia, Heron, Julian, Jayke, Tommy, Heron, Sofia, Julian Jr. "Bubby", and Alex; and 4 great-grandchildren. His memory lives on through his brothers, Humberto (Natividad) Tellez, Jose Abel (Irma) Tellez, Mario (Cindy) Tellez, Miguel Tellez, and Heliodoro (Elizabeth) Tellez; his sisters, Maria Tellez and Hilda Rodriguez Tellez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliodoro and Petra Tellez, and his sister, Eglantina Tellez.
He will be greatly missed and always loved.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Waubun Community Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the community center. Burial will be in the Waubun City Cemetery.
