Herbert Yarbrough, age 86, of Hitterdal, MN, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Herbert Theodore was born August 10, 1929, to William and Anna (Jore) Yarbrough at home in rural Hawley, MN. As a young boy, Herb's parents purchased a farm in rural Hitterdal. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Hitterdal High School with the class of 1948. Herbert was united in marriage to Donna Bakke on May 13, 1950, at Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal. As the first couple married in the church, their ceremony was performed in the basement as the finishing touches were still being made upstairs in the new church. The newlyweds made their first home together in rural Hawley, MN. In 1955, Herb and Donna purchased a farm in rural Hitterdal, where they would raise their eight children. Over the years, Herb farmed, raised cattle and worked at American Crystal for 34 years, before retiring in 1987. He continued to farm for a few additional years. Donna passed away in October of 2015, and Herb remained on the farm. The couple enjoyed camping and snowmobiling in their younger years and Bingo and traveling in later years. Herb and Donna loved to travel, even journeying to places like England and Alaska. Herb was an avid Minnesota Vikings Fan and a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church. Herb is survived by five daughters: Diane (Kenny) Burnside, Ulen, Susan (Ron) Braseth, Dilworth, MN, Karen (Don) Wisk, Joyce (Wayne) Jacobson, both of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Joni (Larry) Blixt of Amenia, ND; three sons: James, Hitterdal, Terry, Ulen, and Randy (Darla), Bemidji, MN; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene (Jim) Cash; one sister-in-law, Janet Yarbrough; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Donna, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanitta Haugtvedt; two
brothers, Edmond and William and two great-grandchildren, Bria and Chase.
