Obituary

Herbert Krueger, age 99, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, February 27, 2017, in his home. Herbert Fred Krueger, the son of John and Augusta (Janzig) Krueger, was born in Frohn Township near Bemidji, MN, on January 13, 1918, and baptized on January 27, 1918. Growing up, Herb attended country schools as his family moved to different places, including rural Mahnomen, Lengby, the farm near Gary, Roy Lake, Waubun, and McCraney Lake, before settling back on the Krueger farm in Wild Rice Township in 1935. It was at that time he confirmed his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strand Township near Gary, MN.  At this same church on April 11, 1942, Herbert was united in marriage to Elvira Kraft. The couple made their home on the Krueger dairy farm where they raised their family and lived for 60+ years. In 1981, they sold the milk cows but remained on the farm. Elvira moved in Valley Living Center in 2003 where she passed away in March of 2006. Later that year, Herb moved into Valley Pines Apartments in Twin Valley where he has since made his home. Herb was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. He was lucky enough to be a part of several four generation deer hunting excursions. Throughout the years, Herb, Elvira and the family took many trips in the United States and Canada and many of them were spent camping. In addition to traveling, Herb and Elvira loved to bowl, so many trips revolved around bowling tournaments with several in Reno, NV. Both Herb and Elvira were instrumental in founding the Woodland 4-H club and participated as 4-H leaders for 25 years. In 1977, Herb and Elvira received the Honored Dairyman of Norman County Award at the Red River Valley Winter Shows. Herb found it entertaining to attend the MN State Fair and take in the exhibits, especially those of his grandchildren. He served for 40+ years on the Wild Rice Township Board, receiving recognition in 2009. He remained active with Trinity Lutheran Church as a board member, officer and elder until he was 95 years old. During his retirement years, Herb enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and dominoes, and taking the occasional trip to the casino. Herb also treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.   Herb is survived by two sons, Larry (Jo) of Waubun, MN, and Tim (Caroline) of Omaha, NE; three daughters: Jean (Harold) Allrich of Twin Valley, Patricia (Loyal) Sakrismo of Ulen, MN, and Valorie (Richard) Snow of Seward, NE; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Eunice Stephenson of Mahnomen, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elvira; great-great-granddaughter, Tiffany; four brothers and sisters.
