Helen Sargent, 77, Ada, MN, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Helen was born on May 5, 1940, in Ada, to Elvin and Myrtle (Kappel) Babler. She grew up on a farm near Borup, MN, graduating from Borup High School in 1958. On August 16, 1958, Helen was united in marriage to Robert "Sarg" Sargent. Helen worked at grocery stores for a while, then was a stay at home mother for years. After the children were older, she worked for American Crystal Sugar beet station for eleven years. Helen also worked part time for Krauters Hardware and Anderson Oil until she started working at Sjordal Hardware where she completed 22 years. Helen then went to work at Ada Parts and Service/Sargent's Air Conditioning & Heating, and later Tim's company – North Star Water.

Helen was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she played the piano (and later organ) from eighth grade on. Helen had a very strong Christian faith and was active in her church as a lector, teacher and sacristan. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Befrienders. Helen was active in the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Ada Booster Club.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and making quilts. She was the Queen of area Demolition Derby's, and enjoyed attending stock car races, snowmobiling, and playing bingo. Helen had a wonderful collection of Christmas houses that she would display every Christmas at Valley View apartments since 2000. Helen loved watching her kids and grandkids in their many sports and activities.

Helen is survived by her children: Jim (Sue) Sargent, Dickinson, ND, Tim Sargent, of Ada, and Kim Sargent of Ada, two brothers, Richard (Mary) Babler, Olivia, MN, and Vince (LaVonne) Babler, Borup, MN, one sister, Ruth Herringer, of Ada, five grandchildren; Greg, Alesia, Kelly, Shelby, Joby, and Mariah, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, one brother Gerald "Butch" Babler, and one brother-in-law, Van "Skip" Herringer.

Memorial Mass: 11:00AM, Monday, July 10, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: 5:00PM to 7:00PM Sunday with a 7:00PM prayer service at the church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
