Helen Docken, 94, Ada, MN, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Essentia Health, Ada, MN, following a brief illness.
Helen Mary Kathryn Jackson was born August 27, 1918, at Lockhart, MN. She was one of nine children born to Bryant and Helen (Malakowsky) Jackson. Helen attended school in Lockhart. Following her schooling, she hired out doing chores and domestic work for neighboring families. In June of 1936, she was united in marriage to Merl Docken in Ada. The started out on a farm near Lockhart and in 1939 bought a farm on the east side of Hi-Way 9, where they lived for many years, retiring in 1974, until moving into Ada in 1994. The farming years also included caring for many chickens, hogs, and cows.
Helen was active in the Methodist Church where she participated in the Ladies Aid, Circle, and served as a Deacon. She enjoyed her Homemakers organization, serving as Past President of the Lockhart PTA, and collecting antiques. Helen was an active member of the Norman County Historical Society, and she also organized many family events and reunions. She and Merl enjoyed when neighbors stopped over and sharing morning coffee. Helen also took care of her parents and grandparents in their later years.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Audrey (Don) Wedell, Kalispell, MT, three sons, David of Backus, MN, Lyle (Kathy) of Ada, MN, and Bruce (Gerrie) of Zillah, WA, one grandson, Andrew (Theresa) Wedell, Hudson, WI, and two great grandchildren, Jack and Katie, brothers, Jon Jackson, Yountville, CA, Eugene Jackson, Fruita, CO, and Sidney (Emily) Jackson, Ada, MN, one sister, Laurel Lee, Ada, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother James, and sisters Joyce Wallay, Marjorie King, and June Wear.
Funeral: 11:00AM, Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Faith United Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
