Hazel Stene, age 96, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, in Mahnomen Health Center, Mahnomen, Minnesota.

Hazel A. Homeland was born September 25, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Cole) Homeland in Ada, Minnesota, where she was raised. Hazel attended and graduated from Ada High School. As a young woman, Hazel worked for her father in the meat market in Ada. On November 2, 1934, Hazel was united in marriage to Alfred Stene at Hendrum, Minnesota. Together they farmed near Ada, from 1934 to 1936. The couple then moved into Ada, where they made their home until 1948. At that time they moved to Twin Valley where they farmed and later operated a septic service from 1960 to 1975. Hazel also was employed by the Twin Valley Retirement Center for 17 years. Alfred died February 15, 1991. She continued to live in Twin Valley, entering the Twin Valley Living Center in March of this year, where she resided until the time of her death.

Hazel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed sharing her faith in God with family and friends. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and tending her flowers. She will be remembered by many for her caring and compassion for people.

Hazel is survived by two sons, Vernon Fox of Salol, MN and Francis Fox of White Earth Lake, MN and four grandchildren, Star, Josh, Mike and Eric and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007, at 10:00 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Friday. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Behling with Myrna Thornton serving as organist and Julie Thornton serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Vernon Fox, Mike Fox, Eric Fox, Jim Mulvihill and Robert Murray.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
