Obituary

Hazel Seykora, age 92, of Twin Valley, MN, died Monday, December 14, 2015, at Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Hazel M. Jacobson was born October 30, 1923, the daughter of Nels and Clara (Kvidt) Jacobson near Waubun, MN. She was raised northwest of Waubun and attended school there, graduating with the class of 1943. After graduation, Hazel worked for a time at the Flom Creamery. On June 16, 1944, Hazel was united in marriage to Leonard Seykora at the Wild Rice Lutheran Parsonage near Twin Valley, MN. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Flom where Hazel was very active in the farming operation. In 1974, Leonard and Hazel sold their farm and moved to home south of Flom. While living there, Leonard and Hazel were custodians of Aspelund Lutheran Church, where they were members, as well as taking care of the cemetery, for over 30 years. Hazel was very active in the church as well, having taught Sunday School for over 40 years. Over the years, Hazel also taught confirmation class at Aspelund as well as at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley.

Leonard passed away on June 17, 1997, and Hazel continued to live in her home one more year. At that time, Hazel moved into the Valley Pines Apartments where she accepted the duties of locking and unlocking the entrance doors and keeping an eye on things there. In 2013, Hazel became a resident at the Twin Valley Living Center where she resided until the time of her death.

Hazel's favorite pastimes included playing cards and bingo, but she had a real passion for quilting, making hundreds of them over the years for her children, grandchildren and many young people throughout the community. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, but she truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hazel is survived by her three daughters: Carol (Duane) Johnson of Flom, MN, Linda (Wally) Blomseth of Twin Valley, MN and Lois (Larry) Malmskog of Lake Park, MN; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Doris Jacobson and a few cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; one sister and one great-grandson.
