Harvey Hansen, age 79, of Ulen, MN died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen.

Harvey James Hansen Jr., the son of Harvey Sr. and Goldie (Schloesser) Hansen, was born on September 18, 1935 in Fargo, ND. He grew up on a farm east of Ulen and attended country school near there. Harvey was baptized and later confirmed his faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. After attending Ulen High School, Harvey worked various jobs. On November 30, 1978 Harvey was united in marriage to Jean Brenna. Together they lived east of Ulen for 20 years while raising their three children. Harvey spent 18 years of his career employed by Northern Improvement. In his retirement years, Harvey worked in the spring and falls for Triangle Ag, hauling fertilizer. Harvey and Jean moved into Ulen in 2003 and this past July he entered the Viking Manor Nursing Home where he continued to make his home.

Harvey was a farmer at heart and loved to work the soil with his 1948 A John Deere and his three bottom plow. While living in the country he also raised most every animal you could think of. Harvey enjoyed the outdoors often camping and splitting wood. He was a man that truly treasured his family, especially cherishing time with his children and grandchildren. He had special nicknames for all of his relatives! He was a down to earth "back in the day" kind of man whose wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all.


Harvey is survived by his wife, Jean of Ulen; children: Christopher (Chrissy) Brenna of Ulen, Jamie (Ed Mars) Hansen of Ulen, Kari (Robby) Burnside of Ulen, David (Takako) Hansen of Twin Valley, Diana (Roger) Saker of Twin Valley Rebecca Hansen of Twin Valley, Mark (Kathy) Hansen of Pequot Lakes, MN, Debra (Rick) Crawford of Wahpeton, ND, and Ed Schweigart of Callaway, MN; three brothers: Ronald (Phyllis) Hansen of Fargo, Donald (Vickie) Hansen of Ulen and Gayle (Beverly) Hansen of Ulen; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arden Hansen, and one sister, Cheryle Goodrich.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00am on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, with Pastor Mike Rueckert officiating. Pallbearers were Matthew Hansen, Gerald Stanford, Jeffery Ellingson, Justin Mickleberg, and Lyle Ranstrom. Honorary bearers were Jess, Danielle, McKenzie, Kaitlyn, Cole, Mika, Abigail, and Ira. Visitation was on Sunday, November 31, 2014 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley, MN. Interment took place at Keene Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ulen.
