Harold Alvin Bergstrom, age 79, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, July 06, 2010 after a battle with cancer at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and his family.

Harold was born February 15, 1931, the son of Albert and Effie Bergstrom of Eagle Bend, Minnesota. He was baptized on March 22, 1931, in Eagle Bend. He was confirmed on May 31st, 1959. He moved with his family to his present farm when he was nine years old. He attended Crocus Hill Country School west of Twin Valley and also Twin Valley Public School. Harold and his brother, Leonard, farmed together until Harold took over the farm in 1951. He married Gloria Begg on July 22, 1951.

Over the years Harold was involved in Rescue Squad, was on the Credit Union and Rockwell Township Boards, and was a deacon at Zion Lutheran Church. He was named Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1981. Harold was an avid welder and loved woodworking. He gave many of his lamps, frames and shelves to family and friends. Other hobbies that kept Harold Busy were tending to his flower gardens, playing cards with his family and friends and restoring farm equipment. He loved his occupation of farming with his son. His favorite place to be was on his farm in Rockwell Township, Norman County, because of all his great neighbors and friends in the area. He was very dedicated to his family.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Julie (Ken) Karl, Chicago, IL, Jerry (Karen) Bergstrom, Twin Valley, MN, Diane (Brad) Bergerson, Slayton, MN, Donna (Dean) Wiger, Fargo, ND and eight grandchildren, Jillian Karl, Adam and Kelli Bergerson, Anne , Matthew and Kari Bergstrom, Erin and Erika Wiger; and one sister, Mabel Zigan, Browerville, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leonard.

Visitation was Thursday, July 8th from 5 to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral Services was held on Friday, July 9th at 10:30 AM in the Zion Lutheran Church Twin Valley. Officiating was Pastor Charles Bade with Jolee Habadank serving as organist and Mark Habedank and Karen Bergstrom serving as vocalists. The eulogy was given by Brad & Diane Bergerson. Pallbearers were David Mickelson, Donnie Skaurud, Chaney Mickelson, Roland Lampton, Clayton Skaurud and Harris Garberg. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
