Obituary

Harley Hanson, age 49, of Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at University of Minnesota Health in Minneapolis, MN.

Harley Allen was born February 25, 1967, in Mahnomen, MN, the youngest child of Leslie and Ethel (Grimsrud) Hanson. As a child, he went to school in Mahnomen and graduated with the class of 1986. After attending college at Moorhead State and Interstate Business College, he began working alongside his father at the bank. Harley married Brenda Bjorge in 1991 in Las Vegas, NV, and they were blessed with two daughters. Harley spent his 26 year career in banking. Harley was currently the Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Board for First National Bank Mahnomen Twin Valley.

In his free time, Harley loved being outdoors. Golfing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling were some of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed traveling and often took the family on vacations and to bank conventions. Due to failing health, Harley had to slow down in recent years, but above all, he loved being a grandpa and truly cherished each of his grandchildren.

Harley was generous with his time and was on several boards within the community. He proudly served on the Mahnomen Fire Department for several years, the Mahnomen Boys & Girls Club, and volunteered with the Salvation Army. Each fall, Harley delivered pumpkins to school for the kids to enjoy. He was an advocate for the Mahnomen Assisted Living Center and was instrumental in its implementation into the community. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church. Harley kept stats for the Mahnomen football team and enjoyed watching the team play. He was also a flag football coach for the 5 th & 6 th grade team. Harley loved it when his daughter, Ashley, raced snowmobiles. The two of them would be gone almost every weekend racing. He was always willing to give anyone a chance and was never quick to judge. He looked for the best in others and made many wonderful friends over the years.

Harley is survived by his daughters: Heather (fiancé, Tyler Anderson) Hanson and Ashley Hanson, both of Mahnomen; his mother, Ethel Hanson, of Mahnomen; his ex-wife, Brenda of Mahnomen; his grandchildren: Craig Bower, Jr., Clayton Bower and Tucker Hanson, all of Mahnomen; and four sisters: Ann Marie (Ron) Oliveri of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Ken) Pierce of West Fargo, ND, Marilyn (Rick) Kaiser and Linda (John) Simon, both of Mahnomen,. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Derek Pierce, Daniel Pierce, Jill Bridge, Jackie Haider, Brenda Halland, Scott Kaiser, Serina Hanson, Jeff Oliveri, Chris Oliveri, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Harley was preceded in death by his dad, Leslie, his brother, Howard and a great nephew, Tommy Oliveri.
