Obituary

Dr. H. J. Ruebke, 92, Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Bridges Care Community, Ada, MN.

Henry Jacob, was born September 12, 1920 in Ada, MN to Albert and Irma (Schwartz) Ruebke. He attended school in Green Meadow Township and graduated from Ada High School. Henry, "Doc" attended pre-veteninary at North Dakota State University in Fargo from 1939-1940. Doc then attended Iowa State University and graduated from Iowa State University in Veterinary Medicine in 1943. During this time, he also served in the U.S. Army. From 1943-1946, Doc practiced in Wadena, MN. While living there, he met Marybelle "Jerry" Moehler. They were married June 15, 1946. Doc taught Bacteriology and Infectious Diseases at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He continued his teaching at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas in 1950-1951. Doc began his private practice in Ada, MN in 1951 and sold it in 1962. He became District Veterinarian for the State of Minnesota in 1962 and retired in 1993.

Doc was a lifetime member of 4-H and FFA. As the district veterinarian, he spent many years at the Minnesota State Fair inspecting animals for exhibition. Doc had many hobbies including baseball, golf, softball, and fishing. An interest in Registered Angus Cattle led to the start of Elm Grove Farm which he operated with his brother Elmer and father Albert. Doc also had a passion for music. He played tuba in the Iowa State Concert, Marching, and Jazz bands. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinforma, a Men's Honorary Music fraternity, the National Honorary Veterinary Fraternity and a member of the NDSU Gold Star Band. He also played in various area dance bands. In 1991-1992, Doc was recognized in the "Who's Who in Veterinary Science and Medicine." He was a proud member of the Ada American Legion Post and served on the Ada School Board of Education. Doc belonged to the Sons of Norway for many years and made many friends through the organization. He danced for many years with his wife Jerry. After Jerry's passing in 2003 he continued to dance with his good friend Lois Winroth.

Doc is survived by one daughter, Linda (Paul Knutson) Ruebke, Grand Forks, ND, and one son Dan (Lisa) Ruebke, Ada, MN. He has four wonderful grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Taylor, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his wife Jerry, parents Albert and Irma, brother Elmer, and sister Helen and brother in law Bob Poehler.

Funeral: 11:00AM Monday, July 15, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Sunday from 5PM to 7PM, with a 6:30PM prayer service all at Grace Lutheran Church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
