Obituary

Greg Lund, age 66, of Twin Valley, MN, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at his home.

Gregory Marc Lund was born June 3, 1948, the son of Elwood and Madeline (Kittelson) Lund in Albert Lea, MN. As a youngster, Greg moved with his family to the Climax, MN, community where he attended school. During his high school career, he was proudly named to All State 8 Man Football in his senior year. Following his graduation in 1966, Greg furthered his education by attending the University of North Colorado receiving degrees in Education and Biology in 1972. In 1974, Greg received a degree in Wildlife Science from Utah State University. In 1974, Greg began teaching in Menahga, MN. On December 21, 1990, Greg was united in marriage to Bonnie Evans at Itasca State Park. The couple made their home in Menahga, MN, where he continued his teaching career until 1994. Greg received his Master's Degree in Education Administration from St. Cloud State University and shortly after, accepted a position in Norman County East as principal. Greg retired after 16 years of serving the Norman County East School District.

Over the years, he also owned and operated Firearm sales and repair business and served as a Volunteer Fireman on the Twin Valley Fire Department. Greg was passionate about teaching and was honored to be the recipient of the Environmental Education Quality Award in 1987 and the Minnesota Principal of the year in 2002. He also served on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Association of Secondary Principals. His teaching skills went beyond the school setting and into his other interests as he was a Tae Kwon Do Instructor, a Volunteer Gun Safety Instructor for the DNR, and a Minnesota Permit to Carry Instructor. Greg was a 3rd Degree Black Belt and took 3rd place at the Tae Kwon Do Nationals in 1994. He was also a firearm expert and was a member of the American Gun Smithing Institute. Greg was a true horseman. He had a special love of Arabian horses and was a member of the Arabian Horse Association. He was a skilled rider and qualified and competed at the CMSA World Championships in 2010. Greg was an active member of the Twin Valley Riders Club and was one of six founding members and the President of the Wild Rice Peacemakers organization. Greg's interests were diversified among many things but he put in whole heart into each one. He will be missed by his family, colleges, and many friends.

Greg is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Bonnie of Twin Valley, MN; a son, Aaron Hoefs (Heidi Sellin) of Park Rapids, MN; a daughter, Carrie (Jeremy) Sieberg of Nicollet, MN; brothers, Brian (Penny) Lund of Detroit Lakes, MN and Thomas (Tenlee) Lund of Longville, MN; sisters-in-law: Kay (Harold) Williams, Jayne (Gary) Mills, Ann (Loren) Ferch and Joan (Bill) Meyer all of Park Rapids, MN; grandchildren: David, Dani, John, Alexander, and Zackary; and special friends, Wayne Gwin and Yvonne Ryan.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law, Arrlon and LaVerne Evans.

A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley. Officiating was Pastor Loren Ferch with special music provided by Monica Winter. Honorary urn bearers were Greg's grandchildren: David, Dani, John, Alexander, Zackary; his son, Aaron; his daughter, Carrie; his son-in-law, Jeremy; special friend, Wayne Gwin and the Wild Rice Peace Makers.
