Obituary

Greg Dorseth, age 57, of Ada, MN, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at his residence in Evergreen REM Group Home, Ada.

Gregory Lee Dorseth was born May 1, 1955 in Mahnomen, MN, the eldest child of Vernon and LaVonne (Hammer) Dorseth. As a young boy, after much doctoring, Greg was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. He lived at home where his parents gave him the love and nurturing that all children deserve, whether handicapped or not. They guided him and Greg was able to excel beyond the doctors predictions. Following lengthy discussions and a tough decision, it was decided for the betterment of Greg, he should live at a facility where they would specialize in helping and raising a handicapped child. Greg moved several times, each time getting a little closer to home near Flom, MN. His final move was to Ada, where he has made his home since 1982.

Greg loved music, especially by Buck Owens and the ever popular tune of Jingle Bells. His favorite cartoon character was Scooby Doo. He had a special sense of humor and truly loved being around family. During the day, Greg would go to the Norman County DAC and also earned his own spending money by working at a store in Ada and the grocery store in Twin Valley. Greg participated in the Special Olympics where he received two different medals for his achievements. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Greg is survived by his parents, Vernon and LaVonne Dorseth of Twin Valley, MN; sisters: Terri (Dale) Thornton of Twin Valley, Jennifer (Michael) Klemetson of Flom, MN, and Jolene (Jeffery) Brevik also of Twin Valley; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and one great-aunt, Minnie Borgrud of Waubun, MN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Henry and Viola Dorseth and Edwin and Lucille Hammer.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, September 25th at 11:00 AM in Aspelund Lutheran Church, rural Flom, MN. Visitation was Monday from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
