Obituary

Gordon Skretvedt, age 91, died January 2, 2015, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at1:00pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada. Interment ceremony with full military honor guard, provided by the Ada Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at the Ada Cemetery at a later date.

Gordon was born in Nielsville, Minnesota, second son of Thom and Lillian Skretvedt. He attended and graduated high school from Caledonia, North Dakota. Following high school he enlisted in the Naval Service and was initially stationed in New London, Connecticut. During this time he met and married his sweetheart, Janet Lee of Gary, Minnesota. Their married life began on May 12, 1945. During his military service he was also stationed in Oakland, California and became Radioman 3rd class in the submarine service. He received an honorable discharge on March 6, 1946.

Gordon and Janet raised 5 children: Ronald Leslie 1946, Craig Bryant 1948, Colleen Rochelle 1952, Meridee Jo 1955, and Kristi Lee 1962. Gordon was acting City Clerk for Ada from 1957 until he retired in 1984.

Throughout his life, Gordon was an active and generous member of the church and community. He was always there for his family and adored his grandchildren! Those who knew Gordy, loved his ability to tell a good story or Norwegian joke. He was also an avid reader, wood craftsman, gardener, and together with his wife, travelled many places. Music moved Gordon; when he felt a good beat he couldn't resist tapping his foot or getting up to dance.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Vernon, and his spouse Charlotte, daughter Colleen, and sons Ronnie and Craig. He is survived by his wife Janet, devoted wife of 69 years, brothers Spencer (Zelda) of California City, CA, and Merlin (Daphne) of St. Louis, MO; sister Arlene Miller of Moorhead, MN; daughters Meridee Hodges, Chicago, IL, and Kristi (Jack)Tsahalis, Eagan, MN; grandsons Andrew (Jane), John (Rachel), Philip, Jackson; and great-grandchildren Paul, Jacob, and Jillian.
