Obituary

Gloria "Bootsie" Thompson, age 85, of Ulen, MN, died Friday, February 24, 2017, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen. Gloria Mae, the daughter of Edwin and Josephine (Dyrdahl) Albertson, was born on December 5, 1931, near Gary, MN. She attended county grade school and Twin Valley High School, graduating in 1949. As a young woman, Bootsie worked as an aide at the Ada Hospital. On October 9, 1950, Bootsie was united in marriage to Kalmer Thompson at the Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, MN. They made their home in Paynesville, MN, for a few years before returning to the farm north of Ulen. They made their home together on the farm for over 60 years. Bootsie was active on the farm working alongside Kalmer milking, haying, and doing field work. In the mid-1980's she began working in the kitchen at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home. Bootsie retired from the nursing home in the late 1990's. She has made her home at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen for the past several months, a place she truly loved. Bootsie enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in her yard, and in earlier years, ice fishing. She loved watching her deer and the birds from the window of her home. Bootsie would spend countless hours every summer mowing her lawn and keeping it up, something that was never work to her but brought her a great amount of joy. She also liked to visit and enjoyed sharing a simple cup of coffee with family and friends. Above all Bootsie cherished her children and loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. The memories they made will be treasured forever. She is survived by three daughters, Jenifer (Mark) Spielman, Twin Valley, MN, Sandra (Darrel) Seeger, Pelican Rapids, MN and Jane (Steve Hacker) Thompson, Fargo, ND; two sons, Steve Thompson, Oakes, ND and Dan Thompson, Ulen, MN; one sister, Donna (Phil) Rogers, Waubun, MN; six grandchildren: Kay, Kelly, Tammi, Stefanie, Dustin and Kyle; and nine great-grandchildren: Cassie, Trina, Alanis, Carissa, Leah, Mason, Alexis, Lily and Owen. Bootsie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Daryl and Edwin Jr., and one sister, JoAnn. Blessed be the memory of Bootsie Thompson.
