Watch Glenn's Graveside Service

Glenn Andersen, age 70, of Gary, MN, died on Monday, June 1, 2020, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Glenn David Andersen, the son of Marvin and Arlene (Ek) Andersen was born on December 1, 1949, in Crookston, MN. He grew up in Gary, MN where he attended school and graduated in the class of 1967. During his time growing up he had many interests and especially had a love for horses. He entered many horse shows with "Lucky" his favorite horse. After high school he worked for a couple years for his father, Marvin before enlisting in the Navy in 1969 for four years. He was stationed in Maryland where he became an airplane mechanic in the Navy during the Vietnam war. After his years of service in the Navy he settled back in Gary, MN where in 1975 he was married and started a family and had two sons. He worked various jobs which included driving gravel truck for the Norman County Highway department for many years followed by delivering mail for the Gary post office before retiring.

Glenn was an enthusiast for many things some of which were model trains, antique tractors, and stationary engines, but his love and gift for playing music stood out. He played many instruments, his love being his violin. Playing by ear, he had many tunes memorized. From old westerns to old Scandinavian music he learned from the locals growing up. Over the years he enjoyed getting together and playing music with his friends and family. Passing on this love to his boys who would accompany him on guitar and accordion as well. He attended the Western Minnesota Steam Thrashers Reunion and the Lake Itasca Pioneer Show for many years. At home He could always be found tinkering with some old engine or tractor to get it running again or restoring antiques.

Glenn also had a special love for his sons and their families. Over the last few summers, he enjoyed having his sons, grandsons, brothers and nephews getting together at his home for fun with old engines, music, camping, and reminiscing. It was the highlight of his summer!

Glenn is survived by his two sons, Nick (Mari) of Menahga, MN and Nate (Amy) of Glyndon MN; ten grandchildren Makila, Timothy, Maggie, Juliana, Michael and Abigail, Grant, Isaiah, Samuel and Leo; one brother Joel (Kathy); two sisters Darla (Dave) and Lani (Dennis), sister-in-law Harriet Andersen and also nieces and nephews and other extended family.
