Glen Edward Brookshire, 65, of Halstad, MN, died on Friday, July 9, 2010, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 20, 1944, to Lee and Maudie (Morgan) Brookshire in Converse, IN. Glen grew up in Converse where he graduated from Oak Hill High School. Following high school, Glen entered the United States Air Force on August 21, 1962. He worked as a jet engine mechanic for B-52's. He was discharged on August 20, 1966 and returned to Converse.
On January 14, 1967, Glen was united in marriage to Julie Saga in Mentor, MN. They moved to Marion, IN where Glen worked at Indiana-Michigan Electrical Company as a lineman. In 1979, they moved to Minnesota and settled in Halstad. Glen worked for Red River Valley Coop as a lineman and later worked in the engineering department. He retired in February of 2009.
Glen was extremely community minded, serving on the Halstad City Council for many years and, since the early 1990's, as mayor. He pushed for many community projects, such as the Halstad City Park, and the boat launch and new Red River Bridge at Halstad. He was a member of the Halstad Economic Development Authority, Northwest Regional Development, Wild Rice Watershed District, and several other organizations.
He loved to fish and hunt deer with his friends. Bowling on Noel's Bowling team and golfing kept Glen active. His softball team members called Glen the "Crafty Old Guy" as he continued to play until the age of 50. Over the years, Glen was a great fan of Norman County West sports and ran the chains for football for more than 20 years. Glen's creative side was expressed in the wood working shop and making wines. Watching the MN Twins and Vikings was one of his favorite past times. Glen and Julie loved children and were foster parents to several children over the years, eventually adopting two daughters. Glen and Julie ran a day care out of their home for many years. Glen enjoyed entomology and loved teaching his children about nature. Glen was quite a storyteller and loved to "scare" kids with his campfire stories while he was a Boy Scout leader and while assisting with the day care in their home.
Glen loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was hard working, honest and widely respect for his wisdom and opinions. Glen touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carol Ann, two brothers, Don Brookshire, and Jan Eric Brookshire, and his son-in-law Randy Scholl.
Glen is survived by his wife, Julie, of Halstad; daughter, Donna Scholl, Halstad; son, Jason (Barb), Hawley, MN; Tanya and Savannah Brookshire, both of Halstad; one granddaughter, Emma Brookshire, Hawley; and two grandsons: Henry and Charlie Scholl, Halstad; one brother, Jesse "Butch" (Dorothy "Dottie"), Converse, IN; one sister, Nancy (Bob) Gilliam, Anderson, IN; one sister-in-law, Linda Brookshire, Burlington, IN; several nephews and nieces.
