Gladys Sundet, age 84, of Farmington, MN formerly Gary, MN, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Trinity Care Center in Farmington.
Gladys Marie Benson, the daughter of James and Clara (Lura) Benson, was born on September 18, 1932 in Reynolds, ND. She was raised in Reynolds being both baptized and confirmed there. After graduating from Reynolds High School with the class of 1950, Gladys worked at the JC Penney Store in Grand Forks. During her employment, she greatly enjoyed creating the store displays, dressing the mannequins and working in the candy department. On September 10, 1966, Gladys was united in marriage to Philip Sundet at the Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Sundet family farm near Gary. They were blessed with three children, Perry, Lisa and Paul, whom Gladys proudly raised while she helped on the farm. Gladys also worked for many years at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, until she chose to stay home to care for Philip as his health failed. Philip passed away on October 23, 1985, after which Gladys later returned to the workforce at the Gary Café. She was especially known for her wonderful homemade donuts and Norwegian Potato Klub. In April of 2008, Gladys suffered a stroke and moved to Farmington to be near her children. She quickly recovered to care for herself and enjoyed many active years at the Trinity Care Center putting a new puzzle together every week, collecting winning bingo prizes, and spending quality time with family.
Gladys was a member of Ness Lutheran Church, near Gary, where she was active with the ladies aid and the circle group. She also loved to cook and bake to share special treats with family and friends. She also spent countless hours sewing, quilting, and spending time outside at the farm gardening.
Gladys is survived by her children: Perry Sundet of Savage, MN, Lisa (Tim) Harkema of Lakeville, MN, and Paul (Michelle) Sundet of Burnsville; two grandchildren, Mikaela and Madison Harkema; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; as well as many dear friends.
