Gladys M. Manning, 87, Ada, Minnesota, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.

Gladys Marcella Orwald was born November 10, 1926, near Twin Valley, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Peterson) Orwald. She grew up by Syre, MN, and attended Twin Valley High School. She married Marvin Manning on July 29, 1944 at First Lutheran Church, in Ada. They farmed near Gary, MN, for many years. She also worked for Viking Snowmobiles in Twin Valley. They moved to the Babbit and Ely, MN area for three years before returning to Gary in 1960, to continue farming.

Gladys was a true "farmwife", working on the farm until she moved to Ada in 1973. She had also worked for the John Wimmer Nursing Home in Ada for many years before retiring. She loved gardening, canning, growing flowers, and doing embroidery.

She was known for her head cheese recipe. Gladys also did a lot of babysitting for her grandchildren, played the accordion and loved the Danny O'Donnel artist. She was a very determined lady and always finished what she started. Losing her 2 sons was very hard to deal with and eventually her health declined.

Gladys is survived by her 3 daughters, Karen (John) Rothschadl, Waubun, MN, JoAnn (Dale) Luchau, and Darlene (Tom) Baker, both of Ada, her sisters, MaryAnn Fennern, Ada, Norma Bentley, Bremerton, WA, and Dorothy Miller, Fargo, ND, 9 grandchildren, Laurie, Amy, Bryan, Darrin, Nathan, Adam, Lance, Nick, and Tyson, 12 great grandchildren, Trenten, Jordan, Taylor, Reese, Rylie, Owen, Jaiden, Ethan, Elijah, Leighton, Brooklyn, and Kourtney. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Dickey and James Manning, a sister, Bev Chounard, grandson, Dale Bentley, and brothers-in-law Roger Miller, Roy Chounard, Pete Fennern, and Doyle Bentley.

Graveside Service: Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
