Obituary

Gladys Jacobson, 87, Twin Valley, MN, died on Monday, July 23, at Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.

Gladys Alphina Hanson was born on May 6, 1920, in Bear Park Township, the daughter of Hans and Karen (Olson) Hanson. She grew up in that area and attended a country school near there. At the age of 15, Gladys met Bennet Jacobson and the couple courted for two years, often by writing letters to each other. On November 6, 1937, Bennet and Gladys were united in marriage at the Lutheran Parsonage in Fertile, MN. They farmed near Fertile until 1943. That same year they purchased a farm near Twin Valley where they made their home and continued to farm. While raising their children Gladys also worked side by side with Bennet on the farm. She milked cows, stacked hay and worked in area potato fields for many years. In the early 1950's they moved to Hibbing, MN, for one year, later returning to their farm in Twin Valley. Later, Gladys took classes and became a Trained Medical Aide (TMA). She began working at the Twin Valley Living Center as a TMA and continued there for over 20 years. She lived on the farm until 2005, when she made her home at the Twin Valley Living Center.

Gladys always had a large garden and often canned her own produce. She was a marvelous cook who specialized in baking wedding cakes. Through this love of cooking she often participated in baking contests around the state. Gladys also enjoyed going to rummage sales and selling items at flea markets. She had an eye for antiques and was quite skilled at refinishing furniture. She was a talented seamstress who made wedding dresses for her daughters and handcrafted afghans for each member of her family. Gladys had many hobbies but her true love was her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Bennet of Twin Valley; one son, Harlen (Elaine) of Twin Valley; two daughters, Judy Sites of Twin Valley and Kathy (Steve) Borgen of Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Genora Lee of Gary, MN, and Sylvia (Joe) Johnson of Hibbing, MN; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Beverly Dahl; six brothers; 2 sisters; and a son-in-law, Laverne Sites.
