Gisle Langerud, 97, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Gisle Oliver Langerud, son of Oscar and Beda (Renslow) Langerud, was born September 12, 1916 on the family farm west of Hitterdal, Minnesota. As a youngster, Gisle attended country school in Keene Township. Growing up on the family farm, Gisle began farming with his dad until eventually taking over the farming operation. He continued to farm until retiring in the early 1990's. Gisle remained on the farm until moving into Hitterdal for the winters starting in the early 2000's. In the 2005, Gisle moved into the Northern Lights Apartments in Ulen where he lived until entering the Viking Manor Nursing Home in February of 2012, where he had made his home since.
Gisle is a former member of Keene Lutheran Church and after its closing, joined Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal where he had been an active member over the years. Gisle's favorite pastimes included sharing his musical talents playing the organ and in later years his accordion, with family and friends. He loved animals of all kinds and treasured the time spent with his family and their reunions.
Gisle is survived by a niece, Karen Clark of Clara City, MN several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, Minnesota. Visitation was Monday, October 7th, from 5-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. in the church. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
