Gerald Hermanson, 79, of Gary, MN, died Thursday, May 7, 2015, at his home under the loving care of his family.

Gerald LeRoy Hermanson was born August 9, 1935, the son of Grant and Hannah (Degerness) Hermanson in Waukon Township, rural Gary, MN, where he grew up. After graduating from high school, Gerald entered the United States Army serving his country from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. He furthered his education at the Bemidji State College and transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1964.

On August 4, 1962, Gerald was united in marriage to Dorothy Brtek in Bejou. The couple made their home near Gary where Gerald farmed for many years. Gerald was also employed by the United States Postal Service for 20 years.

Over the years, Gerald served on the Gary Ag Service Board, was treasurer of the Immaculate Conception Church, was township clerk and was a KC member.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy of Gary; children: Denise (Reed) Olson of Twin Valley, MN, Joel Hermanson of Fargo, ND, Gayle Hermanson of Gary, MN, Deb Tate of Stafford, VA, Mathew (Laura) Hermanson of Horace, ND and Wade (Mardel) Hermanson of West Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Roger Hermanson of Brainerd, MN and a sister, Kathy (Arlan) Niebeling of Cannon Falls, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Hannah Hermanson.
