Obituary

George King, age 86, of Twin Valley, MN died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

George King was born August 22, 1926 the son of Leonard and Lizzy (Velere) King in Perham, MN. As a youngster, George moved with his family to Pregno, OR where he attended school. Over the years, George had worked on various farms milking cows and doing general farm labor. He also was employed unloading railroad cars for a time. George lived in the Natwick Board and Care Home in Gary for a few years until the tornado in July of 1978 forced him and the other residents to find a new home. It was at that time that George moved into the Twin Valley Living Center, then known as Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home. George had lived at the Twin Valley Living Center for more years than any other resident and longer than any current staff has been employed there. Over the years they became George's family and he became a part of theirs. While living there, George was very active as a song leader during church services as well as leading the morning exercise group for many years. All the residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed George's enthusiasm for getting them involved.

George's favorite pastimes included listening to music, singing, enjoying nature while walking outside and keeping the staff informed of the current weather forecast. He was proud to have been selected a few weeks ago as the 2013 Sno-Mo Days King at the Twin Valley Living Center. His warm smile and high energy will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Shurtliff.
