George Libby Jr., age 45, of Mahnomen, MN, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 11, 2020, near White Earth, MN.

George Edward Libby Jr., the son of George Libby Sr. and Myrna Desjarlais, was born February 11, 1975, in Minneapolis, MN.  He was lovingly raised by his Mom and Dad, John, in the Detroit Lakes, MN, area where he attended school.  Later moving to White Earth, George also attended the Circle of Life Academy.  Following his schooling, he joined the workforce and started a family.  George was blessed with four children: George Jr., Austin, Mauricio, and Shantel, all whom he treasured.

George was passionate about his heritage, loved to learn about Native American traditions, and enjoyed beading, hunting, and fishing.  He also cherished spending time with family, especially joking with his nieces and nephews, being in the great outdoors, working on cars, camping and was a very talented carpenter.  Over the years, he owned his own business, G & J Construction, and most recently was employed with Jake at their taxi service company.  George will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.

George is survived by his mom and dad, Myrna and John Smith of Mahnomen; children, George Desjarlais and Austin Desjarlais and their mom, Shannon Murray and Mauricio Oshkinowe and Shantel Hanks and their mom, Jill Ann Thompson; three brothers: Jake Wolter of Breckenridge, MN, Chris (Nicole) Desjarlais of Ulen, MN, and Matt Desjarlais of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters, Violet (Neil) Klinkhammer and Lita Libby Doran, both of Mahnomen; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Libby Sr.; grandparents; cousin, Josh Morley; Godmother, Loretta Desjarlais and several aunts and uncles.

A public Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Calvary Cemetery, White Earth, MN.  A time of gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 16 ^th from 3-6 pm with a prayer service beginning at 6 pm at the John and Myrna Smith Residence in Mahnomen.  All are welcome.

Following all safety protocols due to COVID-19 restrictions, all individuals are encouraged to wear a mask.
