Obituary

George W. Annawaush, age 84, of Lengby, MN, died Thursday April 12, 2012 at his residence under the care of Essentia Health Hospice of Fosston, MN.

George Wallace Annawaush was born April 21, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Charles and Margaret (Portz) Annawaush. He grew up in the Pine Bend, MN, area where he attended school. Following his schooling, George entered the United States Marine Corp. After serving during WWII and an honorable discharge, he returned to the Pine Bend area where he would reside until his death. Over the years, George worked many different jobs. He truly enjoyed the outdoors and spent much time logging, leeching and ricing. He was also employed by Wild Rice Electric for a number of years. In 2009, George was diagnosed with cancer and continued to spend his time with family.


Family and friends were of great significance in George's life. He always loved family gatherings and all the children. He had a great sense of humor and always a joke to tell. Other hobbies known to George were hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominoes, and a trip to the Shooting Star Casino on Elders Day. George was a member of the Rice Lake Area Fellowship Church and the Lengby VFW Spring Lake Post #2759.


George is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sisters: Leona Bunker and Dorothy Bunker; brother, Clarence Annawaush; nieces, Olive Folstrom and Ruth Larson; nephews, Charles Hamlin and Rocky Hamlin and great nephew, Rodney Hamlin.


A message from Uncle George: "I loved every one of you and I thought of you as my own children. I want you all to remember how much I loved you and always remember that you are brothers and sisters and to be there for each other."


A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. A time of gathering will begin one hour prior to the service on Monday.
