George Accobee, age 51, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015, in Naytahwaush.
George William Accobee was born on February 19, 1963, the son of Georgina Accobee and James Taylor in Warroad, MN. Although his family moved often, he spent most of his childhood in the Naytahwaush area. As a young man, George enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training in Georgia then proudly served with the 2nd Infantry Division while stationed at Camp Hovey in South Korea. Following his discharge, George lived for a time in Minneapolis, MN, before returning to Naytahwaush. In 1990, George and Tanya Ortman were blessed with one son, Kyle. George worked for a time at the West Central Turkey Plant out of Pelican Rapids, MN and later attended carpentry school. George was united in marriage to Barbara Hoban-Keezer. Beginning at the Golden Eagle in 1991 then moving into the Shooting Star, George worked with the Casino for over 15 years. Over his career, he worked as a Blackjack dealer, a Pit Boss, and Shift Manager. He was later employed with Team Industries. George had a special talent working with birch bark and made many beautiful baskets. He enjoyed leeching and ricing in his spare time. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. George had a competitive spirit and loved a good challenge with brothers.
George is survived by one son, Kyle Lee (Megan) Accobee of Hawley; three brothers: Rick (Kitty) of Naytahwaush, Michael of Naytahwaush, and Dale (Debra) of Ogema; one sister, Diane (Darwin) Shaugabay of Naytahwaush; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, John Burnette; and one sister, Jean Marie.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 20, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Naytahwaush in Naytahwaush. Visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm with a 6:30pm Prayer Service on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN.
Burial will be in Free Gospel Alliance Cemetery, Naytahwaush.
