Geoffrey M. Sorenson, 62, formerly of Dilworth, MN, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.
Geoffrey Melford Sorenson was born December 6, 1953, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Melford and Ruth (Eaton) Sorenson. While Geoffrey was growing up, his father served in the military and the family was stationed in several states and countries including Virginia, Colorado, Texas, and Alaska, as well as Sweden, and Taiwan. He graduated from McArthur High School in San Antonio, TX. He enrolled in NDSU and graduated with a degree in Animal Science. During college, Geoffrey was enrolled with the ROTC and was commissioned to the United States Army stationed in Georgia, California, and South Korea. He was separated from active duty and continued serving with the Army Reserve for a total of 15 years.
He was united in marriage to Kim Hae Suk in 1977, in Fargo. They resided in Fargo and were blessed with twin daughters in 1979. He attended graduate school at NDSU and was later employed with USDA for several years living in Green Bay, WI and Luverne, MN. He later moved to the Moorhead/Dilworth area and worked for Walmart and was on a leave of absence at the time of his death.
Geoffrey enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, camping, and fishing. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man and had a strong quiet faith that carried him during his illness.
Geoffrey is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Randy) Reichert, Ada, MN, Susan (Evan) Gronneberg, Fargo, ND, his mother, Ruth Phalen, Grand Forks, ND, 3 brothers, Eric (Roxann), Cedar Rapids, IA, Matthew (Annette), Herndon, VA, David (Kay), Sioux Falls, SD, 2 sisters, Kristin (Ragnar) Foland, Grand Forks, ND, Karen (Fred) O'Toole, The Woodlands, TX, and several nieces , nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are his step brothers, Tim (Nancy) Phalen Wyndmere, ND, Tom (Angie) Phalen, Littleton, CO, and a step sister Roxann (Eric) Sorenson, Cedar Rapids, IA. He was preceded in death by his father, Melford Sorenson and his step-father William Phalen.
Funeral Mass: 10:00AM Friday, November 18, 2016, at Mission Court Chapel, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.
Visitation/Rosary: Beginning at 8:30 Friday morning before the mass at the Mission Court Chapel.
Burial: Calvary Memorial Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
