Schultz
Jun 20, 1934 — May 4, 2024
Ulen
Gene Schultz, age 89, of Ulen, MN, died Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Gene Waldo Schultz was born on June 20, 1934, to John and Ordella (Holte) Schultz on the family farm in rural Hitterdal, MN. Gene attended Ulen High School, graduating with the class of 1953. Following graduation, he farmed with his family until in May of 1955 whenGene answered the call of his country, serving as a radar operator in the United States Army stationed in Maine until his honorable discharge in 1957. After returning home, he took over the family farm. He married the love of his life, Orpha Klemetson, on August 22, 1959, at the Atlanta Lutheran Church, rural Ulen. The couple briefly made their home in Barnesville, MN, before moving back to the farm where they raised their family.
Farming was more than a livelihood for Gene; it was his passion and his pride. He cherished the opportunity to work alongside his son, nurturing a dairy operation and tending to grains and hay. Despite slowing down in his 80s, he remained dedicated to the farm and continued to contribute. He especially enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives to check the fields.
In every season of life, Gene's hands were never idle. He found joy in cultivating his garden and meticulously caring for his lawn. Beyond the farm, he treasured moments spent with loved ones, often gathering over a cup of coffee to share stories and laughter. A loyal supporter of Minnesota sports, Gene cheered on the Vikings and Twins with unwavering enthusiasm, though he had love for all sports. Gene was strong in his faith in God and he was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Gene will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, unwavering commitment to family, and the quiet strength of his faith. He will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Gene is survived by his wife of 64 years, Orpha Schultz; sons: Kelly Schultz and Bradley (Becky) Schultz; two grandchildren: Phoenix and Titan Schultz; brothers: Ken (Ione) Schultz and JoNeil Schultz; sister, JoAnn Rinke; and sister-in-law, Ardith Fuglie. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Verle Rinke, Winton Fuglie, Justin (Muriel) Klemetson, and Marlin (Irene) Klemetson, and sister-in-law, Rubye Schultz.
