Obituary

Gayle Rogers, age 69, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Gayle Cheryl Oppegard was born April 5, 1946, to Fred and Stella (Clark) Oppegard in Mahnomen, MN. She grew up on the White Earth Reservation and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1964. On March 6, 1965, Gayle was united in marriage to Bernard "Scotty" Rogers and they made their home in the Minneapolis, MN, area. She worked for IDS and Honeywell for several years before moving back to the Mahnomen area. Upon receiving her secretarial/accounting certificate from Bemidji State University, Gayle took a job at the Mahnomen County Court House in the auditor's office. She retired in 2009, after 31+ years of faithful employment. Gayle was currently working as a PCA for Circle of Life Anishinaabe.

Loyal, faithful and devoted are all words that describe Gayle's attitude toward family and church. She was an active member of the Ojibwe Singers, Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church and served as Sr. Worden for many years. Gayle seemed a bit timid, but she was always a team player and go getter. She cherished times with her family and had a special bond with granddaughter, Kristen, and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Kristella. Gayle also enjoyed playing Bingo, traveling with Rev. Jackie and making wonderful memories with her cousin, Lois. She will be missed by many who were lucky enough to call her friend or family.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Estrada of Mahnomen; two step-sons; three grandsons; one granddaughter; six great-grandchildren; three nephews; two nieces; an immense amount of cousins, extended family and friends.

Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Scotty; a sister, Angel Brekke; her parents; an infant son, Bernard Rogers Jr; and one brother, Skip.
