Obituary

Gary Soyring, age, 69 of Elbow Lake Village, MN, died Friday, September 6, 2019, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Gary, the son of David and Delia (LaGue) Soyring, was born on August 3, 1950 in Detroit Lakes, MN.  He was raised in Elbow Lake Village and attended school in Waubun, MN.  As a young man, Gary worked in the great outdoors, logging, trapping, and hunting.  He also studied carpentry at the technical college. In 1981, Gary married Carla Johnson and they were blessed with four children.  Although they later divorced, they remained friends and kept the family close. In the early 1990's, Gary began working in Security at the Shooting Star Casino, where he was employed until retirement.  Gary was often found playing cards, watching the game show network, westerns, golfing, watching sports with his nephews, especially boxing and the Minnesota Vikings or sharing a cup of coffee with friends.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family.  Gary was famous for his whisker-rubs and loved to "terrorize" his family.  Gary loved to make others laugh and was the life of the family gatherings.

He is survived by two daughters, Christina (Joe) Olsen and Lynsey Soyring; one son, Henry Soyring; the mother of his children, Carla Soyring; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Bernard (Lois) and Paul (Jen); five sisters: Elaine (Jesse) Finch, Jeanine (Mark) Conklin, Mary "Biz" Burrow, Pamela (Herman) Holt, and Norma Hedlund; brothers-in-law: Tony Goerdt, James "Boy" Anderson, Terry Sprunk; and sister-in-law, Janell Soyring.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Delia; his daughter, Hayle; brothers, Richard, Dean and David "Ed"; sisters: Marie Fairbanks, Tina Bellecourt, Linda Goerdt, and Yvonne Helms; brother-in-law, LeRoy Fairbanks; and sister-in-law, Yvonne Soyring.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Elbow Lake Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake Village, MN.  Burial will be in Vernon Anderson Cemetery.
