Gary
Dunbar
Jun 1, 1944 — Nov 21, 2025
Twin Valley
Gary Dunbar, age 81, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN.
Gary William Dunbar was born on June 1, 1944. He passed away in his sleep on November 21, 2025, at the age of 81 years old. He was the baby of the seven children, born to Charles Dunbar and Helen Hall. He was all state athlete at Twin Valley High School where he grew up. Gary graduated from Twin Valley High in May of 1963. He was drafted in the Army in 1965 serving in South Korea competing in baseball, basketball and football entertaining his loyal troops. Following his enlistment in 1967, he returned to Twin Valley and married Mary Ann Strommen on December 2, 1967. Gary has three sons, Allan, Anthony and Jason and five grandchildren, Grant, Lexy, Jacob, Shelby and Mary Jo. He was known for his hard work and loving his grandchildren. He loved his basketball. I don't recall him missing a game his sons played and was always in the stands. His jump shot was the best. I can recall many of nights after Wednesday night pick up basketball, the guys playing pinochle and eating venison sausage and a few PBR's and listening to Charlie Pride. Gary loved deer hunting. I will always remember him gutting the first deer of the season and eating a piece of the liver. He was a lumberjack. His skill with a chain saw in his hands was outstanding. He worked for Abbott, Arne and Schwindt out of Moorhead for 30 years, being a heavy equipment operator. His skill operating a front-end loader helped build up the Fargo and surrounding areas to what it is today. Gary Dunbar may have been a hard man to please but he was my father and taught me how to be a good person and better man.
