Frank Paul Jr., age 78 of Waubun, MN, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 while working on his farm.
Frank Edward Paul Jr. was born October 5, 1929 at home in Rosedale Township the son of Frank and Anna (Blattenbauer) Paul. As a child he attended rural school at the Town Hall School near his home. Frank helped on the family farm until entering the United States Army in 1951 where he drove a quad 50 halftrack during the Korean Conflict. For his dedicated service to our country Frank was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Two Overseas Bars, and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his discharge, he returned home to the family farm. In 1955, Frank received his pilot's license and would often fly to visit his sweetie, Darlene while she was working in Brainerd, MN. On December 1, 1956, Frank was united in marriage to Darlene Donnell at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. The couple purchased a farm in Lake Grove Township, rural Waubun, where they made their home for over 50 years. After Darlene?s death in 2004, Frank continued to farm and raise cattle until 2006 when he semi-retired. Although he sold the cattle and rented out the land, he continued to work on the farm.
Frank truly appreciated the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed simply driving around, sightseeing and bird watching. In addition to normal "chores", he also liked to feed his squirrels and birds on the farm.
He was an active member of the community serving on many committees and organizations throughout the years. He was a member of the Waubun Wildlife Club, Mahnomen Area Sportsman?s Club, Naytahwaush Nightriders Snowmobile Club, Waubun Hardwood Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, Omega VFW Post # 9880, and the Isaacson-Bjorge Post # 31 of the American Legion. Frank was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Mahnomen Council # 2573.
Frank was a jokester, an entertainer, and loved to visit. He often hosted BBQ feeds on the farm and family gatherings. Frank was known for the extraordinary sausage that he made for friends and neighbors in his butcher shop. Frank loved read and was often found at rummage sales finding new books. His life centered on his family and his farm, both were true blessings in his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Frank is survived by four sons: Steve (Judy) of Waubun, Stewart (Darcy Goodboe) of Roseau, MN, Shawn (Patty) of Mora, MN, and Scott (Melissa) of Fargo, ND; three daughters: Sheila (Tim) Sandquist of East Bethel, MN, Shelly (Jim Ramstad) Brunner of Mahnomen, and Shannon (Ken) Septon of Minot, ND; two brothers, Edward (Beverly) Paul of Waubun and Robert (Delores) Paul of Mahnomen; and one sister, Betty (Delmar) Schoenborn of Mahnomen; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
