Frank Charles Harrington, 89, Halstad, MN, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.
Frank was born on December 25, 1921, at home in Elm River Township, Traill County, ND, to Charles and Clara (Knutson) Harrington. He attended rural school in Elm River Township and later graduated from Hendrum High School in 1939. Following his schooling, Frank continued to farm with his family.
On October 13, 1942, Frank was united in marriage to Nyla Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum. They lived near the home farm, raising their family and farming with family. Over the years, Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, Halstad Elevator Board, Traill Mutual Insurance Company as director for many years, Elm River School Board and Elm River Township Board. He was also a member of Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad.
In 1966, Nyla and Frank spent there winters in Mesa, AZ, living in the same home for 28 years. They returned home in the spring to continue farming. In 2007, they moved to the Heritage Center, Halstad and on November 30, 2009, Frank entered the Halstad Living Center.
Growing wheat and playing golf were two of Frank's passions. In Mesa, Frank enjoyed working with wood, playing pool and shuffle board. Being straight forward and determined, Frank accomplished a lot. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and especially his wife, Nyla.
Frank is survived by his wife, Nyla, Halstad; two sons, Lynn (Joan), Hillsboro, ND, and Terry (Cheryl), Fergus Falls, MN; one daughter, Doreen Harrington, Wahpeton, ND; five grandchildren, Mark (Terri), Melissa (Pete) Kautzman, Jill (Neil) Fandrick, Ryan, and Stacia (Matt) Sytsma; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Francis (Harold) Hage, Fargo, ND; several nephews and nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Linda, and one brother, Richard.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN
Visitation: will be Monday, Feb. 7th from 5:00-7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.
