Frances (Bonnie) Coughlin, 95, of Robbinsdale, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at her home in Robbinsdale.
Frances Elizabeth was born January 7, 1912, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Archibald and Etha (Houtz) McMullen. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. Following her schooling, she married Leo Kenneth Bonn on December 31, 1930. Together they moved to Mahnomen, MN in 1938 where they eventually took over the family restaurant and hotel. Kenneth died in August of 1941 in a car accident. Frances continued to operate the Bonn's Café and Hotel.
On September 16, 1948, Frances was united in marriage to Richard Coughlin in Robbinsdale, MN. The couple made their home in Mahnomen. Richard died in 1972 and Frances continued to live in Mahnomen where she enjoyed many community activities.
In 2000, Frances moved to Robbinsdale, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.
Over the years, Frances has been involved with the United Church of Christ, Bridge Club and Women's Club. She was a founding member of the library Club. She enjoyed trips to the opera and trips to Minneapolis at Christmas time to go shopping at Daytons with her daughters. Frances will be remembered as a giving person who was always very charitable to others. She will be sadly missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Frances is survived by two daughters, Barbara Johnson, of Riverside, RI, and Rebecca Siegel, of Sarasota, FL; 11 grandchildren, David Johnson (Terri Brady), Douglas Johnson (Aleta), Bart Bonn (K'young a), Tristan Bonn (Gregory Nowel), Susan Israel (Eric), Bo Bonn (Sarah), Korey Ketola (Brenda), Bradley Bonn, Elizabeth Johnson (Anthony Lobash), Kelsi Bonn, and Howard Siegel (Jodi); 14 great-grandchildren: Derek Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Alina Bonn, Ashley Bonn, Rachel Israel, Jacob Israel, Paul Bonn, Kathryn Bonn, Kelli Ketola, Kristopher Ketola, Gabe Nowell, Nathan Nowel, Henry Lobash and Sam Siegel. In addition to her husband, Richard, Frances was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo Kenneth Bonn; a son, Paul Bonn; two granddaughters, Kristen Ketola and Carol Johnson; a grandson, Daniel Johnson; two sisters, Mildred MacAlister and Virginia Herman; and one brother, Robert McMullen.
