Watch Floyd's Funeral

Floyd Wibbels, age 87, of Bejou, MN, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at his home under the loving care of his family.

Floyd Eugene was born November 19, 1934, at home in Mahnomen County, the son of Garret and Nellie (DeVries) Wibbels.  Growing up, he attended elementary school in Bejou and then graduated from Mahnomen High School with the Class of 1953.  Following high school, Floyd entered the workforce driving gravel truck, hauling turkeys for Swift Co. and also helping his dad on the farm.  In July of 1957, he joined the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1959, followed by the Army Reserve.  During those four years of the reserves, Floyd attended Bemidji State College and received his Bachelor of Science in Education.  On August 23, 1963, Floyd was united in marriage to Lois Gunnarson in Mahnomen.  The couple made their home in Mahnomen and Floyd began teaching 3 rd grade in Fertile, MN.  In the Fall of 1966, he began teaching at Mahnomen Public School, 3 rd grade for a year followed by 4 th grade until his retirement in 1990.  Following his dad's death in 1972, Floyd and Lois moved to the family farm where they raised their four children and have continued to make their home.  Throughout his teaching years, Floyd also farmed the land around their home and had a small dairy herd until 1987.  Even after his retirement from school, Floyd continued to keep busy by working as a janitor at the school and later working at Bruggeman's SuperValu.

Hospitable, hardworking, humble and patient are all words to describe Floyd.  He was a wonderful husband, father and teacher with a servant's heart and a great sense of humor.  He was always willing to lend a hand, lead by example and continued to learn every day.  Floyd was a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church in Mahnomen until its closing and then he and Lois attended Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston.  His faith was an important part of his day-to-day living and he taught Sunday School, and served in many capacities within the church.  He loved his Lord and his family.  He enjoyed the old hymns and would often sing loud and proud when attending church.  Floyd will be greatly missed by many.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois, of Bejou; two sons, Paul (Doreen) of West Fargo, ND, and Loren (Sheri) of Glyndon, MN; two daughters, Jeanine (Kirby) Wilson of Ham Lake, MN, and Brenda Crow of Detroit Lakes, MN; nine grandchildren: Derek Wilson, Kirsten Wilson, Katie Wibbels, Joshua Wibbels, Allen Wibbels, Brittany Wibbels, Cassandra Crow, Benjamin Crow and Emily Crow; three great-grandchildren: Kota Hoselton, Brayah Wibbels and Kashton Wibbels; sister-in-law, Sharon Wibbels of Mesa, AZ; nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Glenn Crow; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene (Alfred) Korfe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald (Margaret) Wibbels and Chester (Janet) Wibbels.

Blessed be the memory of Floyd Eugene Wibbels.
