Floyd
Schmoll
Jul 27, 1936 — Feb 13, 2019
Waubun
It is with great sadness that the family of Floyd Arnold Schmoll announces his passing on February 13, 2019, at his home near Waubun, MN.
Floyd was born in Mahnomen, MN, on July 27, 1936, the son of Johannes and Sophia (Pawlitschek) Schmoll. He was raised near McCraney Lake along with his sister, Annabelle and a brother, Dennis. Floyd attended school in Waubun and enjoyed spending his days hunting, fishing and trapping. Following high school, he went to Montana to work on a farm, but returned to Minnesota after a short time. Floyd then enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War Arena and later served another tenure in the Minnesota Army National Guard. Upon his honorable discharge, Floyd returned to Minnesota. He began working at Columbia Millworks in Minneapolis, MN, honing his skills as a cabinet maker and would continue as an independent contractor for the next 45 years. Floyd was united in marriage to Madelyn Orstad in June of 1962. Together they were blessed with five children and made their home in Howard Lake, MN, for nearly 40 years. Floyd has lived in his home near McCraney Lake for the past several years.
Over the years, Floyd enjoyed many activities like alpine and water skiing and many years on a bowling league. He spent a few seasons oval track racing with his 1960 Chevy, even winning a few trophies along the way. However, Floyd's real passion was being in the great outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was able to pass not only his knowledge and ethics but also his love for these activities on to his children and grandchildren and they will forever be grateful. Floyd will be missed by many but live on in their hearts.
Floyd is survived by his children: Yvonne (Mike) Krause of Wayzata, MN, Robert of Fairbanks, AK, Brent of Bozeman, MT, Nichole Terning of Dassel, MN, and Randy (Sandy) of Andover, MN; five grandchildren: Michael, Jennifer, Tucker, Sophia, and Colin; one sister, Annabelle Walz of Mahnomen and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Circles of Faith, United Church of Christ in Waubun, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
