Floyd Berg, age 88, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Monday, July 24, 2006, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Floyd L. Berg was born May 6, 1918, the son of Swen and Anna (Brown) Berg in Hodges, Montana where he grew up. He graduated from high school in Nashua, Montana in 1936. For the next few years, he traveled and worked a variety of construction jobs. On October 14, 1939, he was united in marriage to Laura Sherseth in Glasgow, Montana. He served his country with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge Floyd, having many talents, worked a wide variety of occupations including: mechanical maintenance, building construction, welding, dam construction, railroad, and business owner. Between the years of 1946 and 1953 Floyd resided in several towns in the northern United States. He moved his family to Sunnyside, Washington, and in 1980, after 20 years of service, retired from Libby's Foods. While living there he was a long time member of the VFW and Eagles Lodge. During his retirement, the couple spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona. While there, he enjoyed providing dance music by playing guitar in a band with his brothers and sisters. In 1993 Floyd and Laura relocated to Twin Valley, Minnesota to be near their daughter and family and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Floyd and Laura also enjoyed evenings of dancing, going fishing, playing golf, cribbage, pinochle, traveling, and camping in their motor home.
Floyd is survived by a daughter, Karen (Dennis) Fjeld of Twin Valley, Minnesota; a son, Darrel Berg of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Arlene Bair of Seattle, Washington and Lucille Baumgardner of Wausau, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Nathan (Deb) Fjeld, Colette Hellerud and Carla (Todd) Wilebski and nine great-grandchildren.
His parents, wife, three brothers and two sisters precede him in death.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at 1:00 PM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Officiating was Pastors Charles Bade, Lauren Ley and Derryl Reed with Danette Gwin serving as organist. Nathan Fjeld, Colette Hellerud and Carla Wilebski wprovided the vocal selections. Pallbearers were Nathan Fjeld, Todd Wilebski, Jordan Hellerud, Lloyd Ley, Ted Ley, Shane Ley, and Lauren Ley. Honorary pallbearers were all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the American Legion will provide military honors.
Visitation was one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Interment is in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota.
