Florence Lakeman

Florence Lakeman, 75, Moorhead, MN, formerly, Borup, MN, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Florence Marie was born on April 18, 1935, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Arthur and Emma (Boe) Miller. She grew up in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1953. After graduation, she took a course in short hand in Moorhead, MN.

Florence was united in marriage to Clarence "Ole" Lakeman on June 18, 1955, at Pelican Rapids. The couple made their home near Borup where they farmed. Florence helped with work on the farm, as well as raising their family. She worked at area grocery stores doing food demonstrations. In the early 1980's, Florence moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area where she worked in home health. She moved to Shelly in 2000, and lived there until 2008, when she entered Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN.

Florence was straight forward and you could always expect a sarcastic comment from her. She loved joking and was always the "life of the party" when in a crowd. Florence was the "Queen" of rummage sales, mapping out addresses and getting up early to find a deal. One of her greatest joys was listening to her daughters sing karaoke in the area. Playing games, like Pinnacle and Quiddler, were great family and friend times. She was a great cook; baking breads and pies were her specialty. Florence was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.

Florence is survived by two sons, Danny (Denise) Borup, MN and Ronny (Jeanna) Ada, MN; two daughters, Karen Oren, Borup, MN, Kim (Tim) Weber, Borup, MN; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one brother: Bill (Kaye) Miller, Big Timber, MT.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Pam and four brothers: Arland, Joe, Ronald and George.

Memorial Service: 2:00pm on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, MN.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00pm with a Prayer Service at 7pm, on Sunday Feb. 20th at the Church.
