Everett "Mickie" Hanson, age 73, of Gary, MN, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Sanford Health of Fargo.
Everett Harlen Hanson was born August 14, 1943, the son of Henry and Esther (Masche) Hanson on the family farm near Gary, MN, where he grew up. Mickie attended school in Gary, graduating from Gary High School with the class of 1961. His father died before Mickie was born, and as a result, he operated the farm with his mother, eventually taking it over completely. On March 1, 1969, Mickie married Joyce Trimborn in Gary. They made their home on the farm where they raised their two daughters, Tanya and Crystal. The couple later divorced and on August 25, 1989, Mickie was united in marriage to Laurel "Laurie" Sahlberg Rian in Detroit Lakes, MN. They have made the family farm their home since that time. Over the years Mickie milked cows, raised beef cattle and farmed until 2006, when he retired.
For the past 25 years, Mickie and Laurie had spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they appreciated being away from the cold. While there, Mickie demonstrated his musical talent singing and jamming with friends. They also loved fishing and hunting together as well as going to flea markets, auctions and garage sales. During the Western Minnesota Steam Thrashers Reunion in Rollag, MN, you could find them both having fun volunteering as conductors on the Rollag train.
Mickie is survived by his wife, Laurie of Gary, MN; daughters, Tanya and Crystal (Heath) Stene all of Gary, MN: step-daughters: Rhonda Rian of Moorhead, MN, Stacie (Mitch) Hoekstra and Sarah (Wade) Mickelson all of Twin Valley, MN; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd Hanson of Gary, MN. Mickie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the local area. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eveline Anderson and Corrine Griewe; and an infant baby boy.
