Obituary

Evelyn Skrien, age 101, of Fargo, ND, formerly Ulen, MN, died Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo. Evelyn Johanna Jorgenson was born July 23, 1914, in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of John and Alma (Halgrimson) Jorgenson. Most of Evelyn's youth was spent growing up near Alborn, MN, where she graduated from high school. Following graduation, Evelyn spent time at her grandparent's farm near Ulen and worked at the local doctors office. While working, she met the love of her life, Carl "Oscar" Skrien. On March 20, 1937, Evelyn and Oscar were united in marriage in Duluth, MN. The couple made their home together 5 miles northeast of Ulen and farmed his parents homestead. They were blessed with 5 children. Following Evelyn's father's death in 1955, her mother, Alma, moved to Ulen to live with them. In addition to helping on the farm and raising a family, Evelyn also worked at the Lefse Factory and later at the Drug Store in Ulen. Oscar died in 1977, and mother and daughter continued to make their home together. Evelyn was the primary care giver to her mom until the time of her death in 1995. Evelyn remained in the Ulen area until 2012 when she moved to Fargo to live with her daughter, Shirley. In January of 2015, Evelyn moved to Rosewood on Broadway where she resided until her death. Some of Evelyn's favorite past times included playing cards, putting together puzzels and reading. When she was able, she loved to tend to her flower and vegetable gardens. In later years, many hours were spent taking in the beauty of the birds and with the ladies quilting group of Bethlehem Church of Ulen. Evelyn was a long time member of Bethlehem Church and its Ladies Aide. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Vince) Fibelstad, of Lewistown, ID; and Sharon (Greg) Marquart of Fargo, ND; two sons, James (Liesel) of Aurora, CO, and Orlyn (Sandy) of Medford, OR; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a daughter, Shirley Germain.
